**Sertürner, discoverer of morphine**, worked in the street Lange Brücke 8 in Einbeck from 1806 - 1809.

**Friedrich Wilhelm Sertürner** **(1783 to 1841)**, born in Neuhaus close to Paderborn, learned the pharmacy trade in Paderborn, before entering in service of the  as an apprentice in 1805. Here, he experimented with the well-known drug opium and isolated a substance that he called the **“sleep-bringing principle” (morphine)**. He had discovered the **first alkaloid** that was ever found.

In times of Napoleon, **1809 to 1817**, Sertürner ran **his own pharmacy** in Einbeck before buying the Town Pharmacy in **Hamelin** in **1822**.

He is buried in **St. Bartholomew’s chapel** outside **Einbeck**’s city gates where today a stone in his memory may be found.

**General Information on Accessibility**The Long Bridge is **barrier-free**. There is a path along the sides of the Long Bridge and along the sides of the market square that is wheelchair-accessible.
However, there are cobblestones in the middle of the Long Bridge and in the middle of the market square.

Sertürner memorial plaque is located in the street Lange Brücke in Einbeck. Lange Brücke is the extension of Market Square and the beginning of the pedestrian precinct of the historic Old Town. 
By public transport:
You can get to the street Lange Brücke from Einbeck central train station in approx. 6 minutes (500 m on foot). Cross at the traffic lights in direction to ZOB (Einbeck central bus station) and walk on the street Dr.-Friedrich-Uhde-Straße to a parking lot called Möncheplatz. From there, continue on the street Lange Brücke leading up to Market Square. The memorial plaque is located on the façade of a house on the left-hand side. 
By car:
You may park your car in one of the parking lots close to the city centre and walk to the street Lange Brücke in 5 – 10 minutes: 
- Paid parking / parking ticket: Tiedexer Street, Breil, Möncheplatz, Neustädter Kirchplatz
- With a parking disc (max. 2 hrs): Hullerser Mauer, around St. Alexandri Minster
- Free of charge: Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) / Köppenweg
