- Church

1000-year-old fieldstone church with a special organ
----------------------------------------------------

The church in Gyhum is one of the oldest between the Weser and Elbe rivers. It is a single-nave fieldstone building in the western part, Romanesque in style. It is around 1000 years old, but was first mentioned in the Stade Copiar in 1420. At first it was just a small chapel dedicated to St. Margaret. The church was then extended to the east in 1793. There are coats of arms of members of the von Marschalk and von Hammerstein families in the church.

The freestanding tower on the west side, built in half-timbering, dates from the 18th century. Four bells of different sizes are housed here.

The Hillebrand organ has 14 sounding voices plus three transmissions on two manuals and pedal. The excellent craftsmanship and tonal quality of the organ and the elaborate workmanship of the console guarantee enjoyable listening and playing.

We are a Protestant congregation served by various pastors. Please feel free to drop by.
