The St. Peter and Paul Church, one of the oldest places of worship in Lüneburg Heath, with its massive round tower dating back to 1190, is particularly worth seeing on the tour through Betzendorf, which is over 1000 years old. The area to the west of Betzendorf is the highest in the district of Lüneburg. From Betzendorfer Berg, you have an excellent view of the surrounding area, the large forest areas of the Süsing and, in good weather, as far as the Lüneburg church towers and the banks of the Elbe on the horizon. Passing hidden blueberry plantations, you reach the historic Amelinghausen sheepfold at the edge of the forest. The building, which is over 200 years old, and the entire area with its campfire site have offered a special ambience for celebrations and events of all kinds for many decades.The Lopausee lake then lies before you, dammed up from the small stream near Rehlingen.
