Hikers set off from the charming state spa town of Salzuflen on the Hansa Trail to Herford. It is worth taking a few deep breaths at the Erlebnis-Gradierwerk in Bad Salzuflen before heading to the actual starting point of the Hansa Trail. At the brine graduation works, the brine trickles over the branches of the blackthorn. This causes the finest brine droplets to atomize in the air and by breathing in and out deeply, the droplets are absorbed into the respiratory tract. The health benefits have been proven for the upper respiratory tract, lungs and skin.
After this fresh kick at the adventure graduation works, you will feel fit for the hiking route.

Gently ascending between the golf course and Obernberg, you will experience the green lungs of the Salzuflen city forest. Before crossing the A2 freeway on a pedestrian bridge, you are greeted by the gently babbling Bocksieksbach stream.
 
Tip: If you want to follow the enchanted Bocksieksbach stream on another hike to the northeast, you will discover the idyllic, quiet Kellerteiche ponds and emerge after a few kilometers in the wildly romantic Finnebachtal valley.
 
The Hansaweg trail leads gently up to the 214 m high Stuckenberg and hiking trail 2. This hill offers excellent views of the district and the Hanseatic city of Herford, especially in the winter months when there are few leaves on the trees.
The Bismarck Tower near Herford was inaugurated in 1906 after around two years of planning and construction. From the viewing platform at a height of around 23 m, you can enjoy a fantastic view in all directions. The rest area at the tower invites you to enjoy a picnic in the green countryside.

Destination Herford within reach

After a well-earned rest at the Bismarck Tower or on the outdoor terrace of the Steinmeyer restaurant, we follow the Hansaweg towards Herford. The path runs almost parallel to the Ellersiekerbach stream along a green belt until it meets the River Werre.

On arrival at the River Werre, the last hiking stage of the day lies ahead. On flat paths, you can see rare specimens of weeping willows along the ramparts, the banks of the Werre and the River Aa, hear the cackling of ducks or admire graceful swans at the Herford water fountain.

For a relaxing end to the day's hiking, there is a varied cultural program in Herford. A visit to the famous Marta Museum, designed by architect Frank Gehry, is a museum for contemporary art, design and architecture. The pretty boutiques in Herford's city center invite you to take a stroll. In addition, Herford's gastronomic scene attracts visitors with a wide variety of culinary delights.
