Industrie und Kultur?!

This year, the MIK Museum of Industrial Culture Osnabrück is celebrating its 30th birthday! The museum was opened in 1994 in the listed Haseschacht building of the former Piesberg coal mine in the north of Osnabrück. To this day, everything at the two museum locations, which are connected by the underground Hasestollen gallery, revolves around the triangle of man - nature - economy. In the museum's 30th year, the MIK is taking a look back at the past with the special exhibition "INDUSTRY AND CULTURE? 30 years of MIK", the MIK looks back at its own history and places it in a wider context. Where does the seemingly contradictory connection between industry and culture in the museum's name have its roots? What discussions and ideas influenced the founding of the Osnabrück museum? What is the situation today - is the somewhat unwieldy concept of industrial culture actually still appropriate? The step-by-step restoration of today's museum buildings and the Hasestollen is illustrated in fast motion. Many photographs and objects also provide an insight into the work of the museum both in front of and behind the scenes and bring back memories of special events on the Piesberg. The Piesberg with its neighboring associations and institutions, with which the MIK has maintained close cooperation for many years, is also the subject of the exhibition. However, it is not just about looking back, but also about future perspectives and visitors can contribute their own ideas and wishes. The exhibition is accompanied by current photographs of regional industrial culture from the Osnabrück Photographic Society. Over the past few months, the photographers have gone on a photo safari through their own city and photographed various traditional companies - allowing visitors to get to know their city from a completely different perspective.
