More information
We, the Paulsen family, have been at home at what is now Meyerstrasse 22 since 1829. In 1832, the owner at the time, Gerd Warneke, was granted "permission to serve brandy" - albeit with the condition that it was not to be served to seated guests and that no "drinking or dancing events" were to be held.
The business, which up to this point had mainly operated on an agricultural basis, was granted an extended license in 1885; the husband of Gerd Warneke's granddaughter, Johann Friedrich Paulsen, was now the first to be officially allowed to call himself an innkeeper. At the time, the license to run an inn "with the right to provide accommodation" also included the possibility of harnessing horse-drawn carriages; other "amenities" for people and animals were not mandatory.
It was Friedrich Paulsen, the grandson of the first "real innkeeper", who set up the first guest rooms that could be described as such after the Second World War - the foundations were laid for our hotel-restaurant today.
