Church
The Annen Chapel was built by the council architect Albrecht Stieglitzer between 1508 and 1512 as a private church for the Görlitz citizen Hans Frenzel, known as "the Rich".
Precious altars and an organ adorned the room. On the outside, seven sandstone figures depict the patron saints of the builder: Anna Selbdritt and her husband Joachim, Mary with the Child and Joseph, John the Baptist, the blessing Christ and Laurentius. In the 18th century it was the church for the adjacent poorhouse, penitentiary and orphanage. Used briefly by the newly formed Catholic community from 1845, it has been the gymnasium and assembly hall of the adjacent school since 1903.
