It all started with their hard-working pet pig "Lotti". With her, Heidrun and Harry Bense began breeding an old, endangered breed of domestic animal, the Bentheim pig. Today, their stock is one of the most important of this breed in Germany. The farm is also home to other endangered livestock breeds such as: Diepholz geese, German Sparrowhawk chickens and Bentheimer Land sheep.

The farm store offers a selection of home-made meat and sausage products. The Bunte Bentheimer pig is known for its fatty meat. The chops are marbled and streaked with fat, the sausage is coarser than in the supermarket, but particularly tasty and filling.

The Archehof Bense also offers pitches for motorhomes. After enjoying the Wendland specialties, it is wonderful to spend the night under an old oak tree in the healthy country air and dream of happy pigs and a peaceful country life, watched over by an owl.
