Lake

The natural moorland lake is a popular bathing lake

The Große Bullensee is located south of Rotenburg (Wümme) and is idyllically situated in a wooded area, directly adjacent to the Großes and Weißes Moor nature reserve. In summer, the official bathing lake invites you to swim and splash around. A non-swimmer area is marked off by ropes and buoys. This is a good thing, as the lake is quite deep in the middle. During the bathing season, the DLRG therefore keeps a watchful eye on swimmers at the weekend. Entry is free of charge!

If you just want to enjoy the sun, you can simply take a seat on the long jetty or sit on the benches around it.

There is also a small children's playground right by the lake. There is even a moor experience zone (see overview board):

Nature experience hiking trails and NORDPFAD Dör 't Moor
The Great and White Moor is right next to the lake. This raised bog is a nature reserve, as is the "Kleiner Bullensee", the little brother of the "Großer Bullensee".
The following four nature experience hiking trails have been created so that you can get through the bog with dry feet. These are indicated by colored markings.
  • Small Bullensee loop (dotted yellow), approx. 1.5 km
  • Large Bullensee loop (dotted green), approx. 2.5 km
  • Small moor loop (dotted blue), approx. 7.5 km
  • Große Moorrunde (red dotted), approx. 11.5 km
The Große Moorrunde was included in the NORDPFADE hiking trail concept: 24 circular hiking trails, all of which lead through the district of Rotenburg (Wümme). Here, the circular hiking trail bears the name "NORDPFAD Dör' t Moor" and is marked accordingly on site. The shortcut variant "Kleine Moorrunde" is marked as a variant.

Moor experience zone
The moor experience zone is located southwest of the Großer Bullensee lake. In the moor experience zone, you can discover the moor habitat with all your senses and have lots of fun. For example, you can feel different surfaces barefoot, balance on a wobbly bridge, hop from tree trunk to tree trunk or simply linger on the benches and let the sounds of nature take effect on you.
