The church in Rießen stands at the eastern entrance to the village and is surrounded by a cemetery. Its patron saint is St. Catherine, which is why the church is called St. Catherine's Church. It was first mentioned in a document in 1234, but it is assumed that the oldest part of the church - the central section measuring around 140 m², where the altar now stands - was built between around 1180 and 1250.
The organ is particularly worth seeing; it is a Christian Father organ from the first half of the 18th century with a high rectangular organ front and baroque Brustwerk. The church tower is around 23 meters high; it carries a wooden spire with two bells and a striking clock on a solid base. In the tower hall there is a stone baptismal font in Romanesque style with carved depictions. Experts estimate that it dates back to the 10th century. The richly decorated wooden baptismal font with removable lid was donated in 1656. The pulpit was donated by Hilmar von Münchhausen, who died in Steyerberg in 1573. The family's burial chamber is attached to the church and is commemorated by a remarkable wooden epitaph.
