Church
The oldest building in the town of Hessisch Oldendorf

The church is the oldest building in the town of Hessisch Oldendorf (completed in 1377). With its mighty defensive tower (owned by the town until 1955), it was not only a meeting place for the community, but also a place of refuge in times of war.

The interior housed 2 wells until 1805, when the interior was raised to street level due to the Weser flooding, and was so large that it could originally accommodate all of the town's inhabitants. The Tornemann (fire watchman) lived in two small chambers in the roof truss, and the legendary Baxmann also worked there. The parish became Protestant in 1552 thanks to the first Lutheran preacher, Eberhard Poppelbaum.

The Gothic hall church is furnished with a valuable baptismal font by Maute Pelking from Hildesheim from 1590 and a communion picture donated by Heilwig von Münchhausen. In 1886, the church was renovated in the neo-Gothic style and finally restored to its original level in 1965.

On the east wall of the church are the burial sites of the Cordemann and von Mengersen families from the 18th century.
