Church
St Mary's Church in Scharnebeck has undergone a series of renovations in its history.
The church of Scharnebeck Abbey had to be almost completely demolished in 1712 due to the risk of collapse. Under the instruction of Elector George I, it was rebuilt by Johann Caspar Borchmann between 1723 and 1724 as a Baroque hall church, reusing parts of the old masonry, including the reduced choir, the crossing and part of the nave. The church building is characterised by a roof tower with an open lantern. Inside, there is a flat ceiling and a U-shaped gallery in the western section. Some parts of the original Gothic choir stalls are still preserved. The church also houses a pulpit altar surrounded by columns dating from around 1780, a wooden baptismal font from 1600 and a statue of the Madonna from the early 14th century.
