The Calvary Chapel was built in 1696 as the end of a Way of the Cross. On July 15, 1949, it was destroyed in the explosion of an ammunition depot. In October 1983 a new chapel was built halfway up Calvary. The new chapel is a faithful replica of the old chapel on a smaller scale (but without the crypt and sexton's apartment). A bronze cross with scenes from the life of the Mother of God forms the end of the choir room. The chapel was inaugurated on July 15, 1984, exactly 35 years after the explosion catastrophe. The chapel is dedicated to “Our Lady”!
