With around 1,800 members, Kirchwalsede is the smallest municipality in the Brockel-Kirchwalsede-Visselhövede municipal association. The church, the oldest parts of which date back to around 1150, characterizes the townscape of Kirchwalsede with its striking exterior.
Despite later alterations, the church, which was built from boulders, is still clearly recognizable as a Romanesque village church. The large bricks of the extension date back to the 11th-12th century. The buttresses and repairs to the masonry, which were added later, are largely made of brick. The approximately 100-foot-high, fieldstone tower stands to the west and dates back to the 14th-15th centuries. It has been the main entrance to the church since 1958
As an "open cycle path church", the interior of the church is open from the end of April to the end of October from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Those who enter the church can discover evidence of faith from many centuries and enjoy the tranquillity offered by the old fieldstone walls. The churchyard behind the listed wall is used by the congregation for services and events. There is also a book phone booth and a beautiful orchard. You are welcome to use the table and benches for a rest!
As a lively community, our groups and circles offer a wide range of activities for people of all ages. The parish hall is located opposite the church. Feel free to drop by or attend our Sunday service in our St. Bartholomew's Church.
We look forward to your visit!
