Many know
St. Bartholomew´s Chapel as the
burial place of Friedrich Wilhelm Sertürner. A stone inside the chapel mentions Sertürner nowadays. However, only few know that St. Bartholomew used to be part of a former
lazar and poor house.
The chapel sometimes hosts
prayers, (art) exhibits or theater plays today.
The St. Bartholomew´s Chapel consists of two parts:- The chapel itself was built in the first half of the 15th century. The half-timbered part was then added in 1510. You can still recognize the number above the entrance.
- In order to turn the chapel into a Sertürner memorial, plans for redesigning were already made in 1934. The extension on the northern side with the family vault of Einbeck´s Wernher family had only been accessible from the outside and hadn´t had an entry to the chapel.
