... baroque buildings between the Maas and Lower Rhine rivers. In 1751, the former church of the Burtscheid abbey was rebuilt according to the design of Aachen master builder Johann Josef Couven. In a reference to Aachen Cathedral, the former abbey church has an impressive octagon and its own abbey treasury. Treasures from over 700 years of history can be admired here. Today, St. Johann-Baptist is one of the two catholic parishes in the heart of Burtscheid.
