- Start: Heisterbach Monastery parking lot (clockwise hike recommended)
The hiking trail begins at the new parking lot, which belongs to the Heisterbach monastery and was created as part of the Regionale 2010 projects. Passing the Weilberg, whose geological outcrop reveals much about the history of the Siebengebirge, we reach the Kasseler Heide with its fields and orchards. Through the quiet, picturesque Lauterbach valley, we climb up to the Blauer See lake and back down through orchards to the ICE route with highway escort. Only briefly does the noise of the traffic routes give us an insight into the recent changes to the landscape, before we climb steeply through new housing estates towards Kleiner Oelberg and enter the peaceful forest landscape on the edge of Thomasberg. Here, too, there are deep crater lakes along the way, which have one thing in common: Stone quarrying. A small circular path laid out by the former Buschhof estate leads through the sparse deciduous forest with plenty of holly. At the edge of the tennis courts, a beautiful forest path branches off and takes us to the Rosenau meadows, which are a valuable habitat with their orchards. At the edge of the path we now find the Waidmannsruh refreshment stop and turn off after the terrace to the Stenzelberg, another quarry that now serves as a protected habitat and is closely linked to the Heisterbach monastery as a former stone supplier.
