Not only does the "Große Tour Lage" start from the center of the idyllic climatic health resort Lage-Hörste, but also the approx. 32 km long cycle tour in the southern part of Lage. The focus here is on the three old church plays Lage, Stapelage and Heiden, which were built between 800 and 1,000 AD. You can discover these highlights along the route:
Tip: Before starting or at the end of your cycle tour, we recommend making a short detour to Stapelage. The small village has an impressive church. Its foundation dates back to the Carolingian period (around 790 AD). Inside the church is one of the oldest baptismal fonts in East Westphalia, which was created around 1100 using material from the Externsteine. In addition to the church, you can also discover other historical buildings such as the farmer's castle or the Stapelage estate.
- Johannissteine
Three mighty granite blocks from the Ice Age form the Johannissteine. They are both a ground and natural monument and exude a mystical atmosphere, especially at the winter solstice. The alignment of the stones and several carvings indicate that the stones were used by our ancestors as a (pre-)protohistoric calendar system. The biotope around the stones offers a wonderful view over the meadows and fields of Lage and invites you to relax. - Botanical fragrance garden by TAOASIS
Over 200,000 plants grow in the botanical fragrance garden on the TAOASIS company premises. In addition to the large lavender field, almost all important aromatic medicinal plants and herbs can be found there. Fascinating Mediterranean plants and fragrant exotic plants also await you. Here you can discover the wonders of nature with all your senses. - The church village of Heiden
The church village of Heiden was first mentioned in 1151. The Gothic hall church with its twisted church tower forms the center of the village. Surrounded by small and charming half-timbered houses, this square not only offers you a beautiful photo motif, but also a good opportunity for a break. - The historic town hall
The historic town hall was built between 1863 and 1865. In 1904 and 1905, it was rebuilt by the well-known master builder Gustav Meßmann from Lagens as you can see it today. - The brickmaker's fountain on the market square
The brickmaker's fountain in the middle of the market square is a symbol of the long brickmaking tradition. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmarkt" was held here, where brickmakers and master brickmakers concluded their contracts for the coming year from December to February. - Technikum
Built in 1925 in neoclassical style, the Technikum served as an engineering school until 1970, where brickmaking engineers were also trained. Since 1995, the Technikum has been a cultural center, home to the music school, the VHS Lippe-West and the Sibylle Dotti Art Foundation.
