The Senne cycle path is a signposted cycle route of around 80 km in length, which leads around the fascinating landscape of the Senne. The section in the Senne from Bad Lippspringe to Augustdorf has only slight differences in altitude. The route in the Teutoburg Forest from Augustdorf via Detmold, Horn-Bad Meinberg to Schlangen is more challenging with its undulating profile.

The Senne is a very special landscape. A diverse cultural landscape was created on 200,000-year-old sands by historical heathland farming, the remains of which can still be found today on the military training area and in some protected areas.

The conditions for settlement and cultivation were poor. The extremely dry and nutrient-poor sands did not produce a good yield. For many centuries, the Senne was therefore a forgotten landscape, a "desert" in the middle of Europe. However, it is precisely these naturally nutrient-poor soils that are the reason for the high nature conservation value of this landscape today: many specialized plants and animals that have become rare throughout the country can be found here.
