You can discover these highlights along the route:
Bad Lippspringe Garden Show:
There is a new top address for lovers of flowers, gardens and parks: the Bad Lippspringe Garden Show. This area emerged from the highly successful 2017 State Garden Show, which clearly exceeded visitor expectations. With the Bad Lippspringe Garden Show, the premium-class climatic health resort, idyllically situated between the Eggegebirge and Teutoburg Forest and on the edge of the Senne, has something special to offer. Under the motto "Floral splendor & forest idyll", the 30-hectare site features impressive seas of flowers, various themed and model gardens, a completely new forest and the romantic Mersmann ponds. The garden show also has a colorful program of events to offer: Enchanting light objects at the Sparkassen-Waldleuchten in spring, artistic structures during the Sandwelten in summer and impressive sculptures at the Pumpkin Festival in fall. There are also regular yoga courses and open-air concerts on the Waldbühne stage between June and September. In addition, various themed tours of the grounds are offered on Sundays.
Former hunting lodge Oesterholz:
The so-called Oesterholz hunting lodge was built by Count Simon VI of Lippe from 1598 onwards to replace a medieval manor house. All that remains of the original Renaissance building complex today is the former count's residence. Modern buildings have been added to it and it now serves as a district retirement home. An expression of the Baroque need for representation is the Fürstenallee to the east, which was laid out around 1720.
St. Christopher's mural:
There is a special work of art in the Protestant church in Schlangen: a mural of St. Christopher, which is the oldest known depiction of this saint in Westphalia. St. Christopher is considered the patron saint of travelers. This painting was applied to the dry mortar in the church tower in the middle of the 13th century using lime paint in the so-called "seco-technique".
The mural is located on the south wall of the vaulted tower room of the Schlangen church. It was rediscovered by chance during renovation work in 1970 and has been an important testimony to medieval art ever since.
Bad Lippspringe castle ruins:
It is the undisputed landmark of the spa and bathing town of Lippspringe.
The castle, built by the Paderborn cathedral chapter, was first documented in 1312 and was finally abandoned in 1785.
The castle ruins are located at the foot of the Lippe spring in Arminius Park. It can only be viewed from the outside.
