The breeding birds at Lake Alfsee

The natural watercourses once characterized the Haseniederung with its numerous fertile wet meadows. Formerly of great economic importance, in modern times they often appear as an obstacle to the progress of agriculture, communities and industry. The hydraulic engineering measures carried out in recent decades have greatly changed the character of the landscape and many bodies of water. Economically unprofitable habitats in particular, but also natural and near-natural habitats and their species populations, have suffered as a result. In Alfhausen, there are still relics of an old cultural landscape, as evidenced by the white stork and the oriole, among others. Remnants of the old cultural landscape can also be seen in the nature reserve, the reserve basin of Lake Alfsee.

Families with children are also very welcome on the tour!

Meeting point is the parking lot at the dyke between Alfhausen and Rieste, Westerfeldstraße, Rieste.
