The former Catholic Court Church in Dresden and current cathedral of the Diocese of Dresden-Meissen is an episcopal church, parish church and one of the largest church buildings in Saxony.
August the Strong did not live to see the construction of the Court Church. It was not until 1739 to 1755 that his son had the church built by Gaetano Chiaveri. Open to the royal family and the widely scattered Catholic community from the very beginning, the Hofkirche is now the cathedral of the Diocese of Dresden-Meissen. The only Silbermann organ preserved in Dresden can also be seen here. The Wettin crypt under the choir of the church holds the heart of Augustus the Strong, while his remains lie in the royal crypt in Krakow.

The cathedral of the diocese of Dresden Meissen was originally the court church of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. This is why it is also connected to the Residential Palace by a passageway.
