Historic moment: The end of the war on the Timeloberg
The end of the Second World War in Europe was heralded on the historic Timeloberg near Lüneburg. On 4 May 1945, on this inconspicuous hill near Wendisch Evern, the partial surrender took place, marking the de facto end of all hostilities in northern Germany, Denmark, Norway and the northern Netherlands. These areas, which were still held by German troops at the time, comprised by far the largest part of the remaining territory. The events on the Timeloberg can therefore be seen as the prelude to the overall German surrender on 8 May 1945.
