Memorial
The Krasnapolsky memorial stone in Pein's city forest, the Herzberg, commemorates Adolf Wilhelm Krasnapolsky. He donated 30,000 gold marks to reforest the Herzberg in 1911.
Krasnapolsky (24.5.1834 - 22.4.1912) grew up in Peine and was of Polish descent. After completing his apprenticeship as a tailor, he emigrated to Holland and was extremely successful as a businessman in Amsterdam. He was the owner of the internationally renowned "Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky".

The boulder bears the inscription: "To the memory of the generous benefactor A.W. Krasnapolsky 1912." Whether the stone was actually erected in 1912, however, is not documented. The memorial stone is located on Krasnapolsky-Weg, at the so-called Liebesgrund. From there, a path leads up to the hill with the romantic castle-style water tower built in 1908.
