Picturesque castle nest. Ruins of Kronenburg with almost completely preserved castle wall (13th and 14th century).

Once, the knights of Kronenburg ruled over the castle village of Kronenburg. Later, the Blankenheimers arrived, then the Manderscheiders, and some others. And at all times, construction was carried out at the location and the castle was built, torn down, and rebuilt. The castle fell into disrepair in the 18th century. The castle settlement around the old fortification has been preserved.

Many buildings have remained unchanged in their external appearance for centuries. Inside, the current owners have adapted to the style and requirements of modern times. Today, Kronenburg, idyllically situated on a mountain cone, is a popular hiking destination.

On a walk, the castle ring can be discovered between the North Gate, the venerable parish church of St. Johann Baptist, and the castle house. Those who can still muster some reserves after a round tour in the castle village will find a hiking sign at the entrance recommending a circular route around the Kronenburger See, which lies in the valley, the eponymous holiday park, and back to the castle village.

Art enthusiasts can view the collection of the Dr. Axe Foundation at Hasenberghof on Gerichtsstraße (www.dr-axe-stiftung.de).
