The town hall in Leer was built in 1894 by the company E. and G. Schumacher from Leer to designs by Professor Henrici from Aachen in the German-Dutch Renaissance style. It is undoubtedly the town's most famous building. Marble floors, ceiling paintings, banqueting halls, a carillon and the Ratskeller (council cellar) bear witness to its former wealth. It is therefore not surprising that the registry office in the historic town hall is also a favourite choice for many of the town's guests for wedding ceremonies. Guided tours of the town hall, including an impressive view from the town hall tower, can be requested from Leer's tourist information centre. Today, the Ratskeller is once again home to the restaurant of the same name, which welcomes its guests.
