Church
The narrow tower of Thedinghausen church is visible from afar.
The first predecessor chapels date back to the 13th century. The first chapel collapsed in 1593. In the following years, sermons were preached from a lime tree. A new building was erected in 1610 - several more buildings followed. The current church was built in 1870 in the neo-Gothic style by the Braunschweig master builder Ernst Wiehe (Thedinghausen belonged to the Braunschweig regional church until 1976).

The church got its name from Mary Magdalene. According to Luke 8:2, Jesus had freed her from evil spirits and illnesses. She then became one of his disciples and was one of the first witnesses to Jesus' resurrection on Easter morning.

The tower through which the church is entered is very narrow and 42 m high. It houses 4 bells hung one above the other. The inscription above the main entrance invites you to enter, reflect and draw strength from Matthew 11:18: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

The windows in the chancel, which had to be replaced due to destruction during the war, are particularly noteworthy. They date from 1990 and were designed and made by Heinz Lilienthal from Bremen-Lesum. The left-hand window depicts the prehistory of the resurrection: the betrayal of Judas by a kiss; the cockerel as a sign of Peter's failure. The right-hand window is dominated by the figure of a woman. It is Mary Magdalene, the patron saint of our church. In the middle picture, the figure of the risen Lord immediately catches the eye. The tomb is open. Jesus turns upwards. Under his feet, he leaves behind everything that has been. The crosses are in the past, but cannot be overlooked despite the darkness. Our gaze is drawn to the future, to the heavenly Jerusalem with its radiant light. The blue color runs through everything - a symbol of hope and God's faithfulness.
