Welcome to Flüggenhofsee in the local recreation area.

The Flüggenhofsee in Munster was created at the beginning of the 1960s.

On the current site of the Flüggenhofsee, then called "Auf dem Sülle", diatomaceous earth was mined in the "ELSE I" pit. After diatomite mining was discontinued, the Flüggenhofsee was created.

The lake takes its name from a former farmstead in Munster, the Flüggenhof, which was located between today's Ollershof and today's town library, on the site of today's Meyer shoe store. The Flüggenhof was first mentioned in 1563 in the name of Henning Flügge.

The last owner, Hermann Alvermann Flüggenbur, had devoted himself to diatomite mining. Since the mid-1970s, the banks, which once consisted solely of sand, have been landscaped and fortified by the town of Munster. A local recreation area was created for the people of Munster.

With the creation of this local recreation area, SAV Munster was entrusted with its management. The lake is 950 m long and between 100 m and 300 m wide, with the deepest points measuring 14 m. The lake receives its water from springs, some of which are very cold.

The Flüggenhofsee is home to the following fish species:

eel, perch, pike, carp, tench, lake trout, whitefish, catfish and zander.

Adult and young members of the association and guest anglers fish in the Flüggenhofsee. The protected area is located in the south-western part of the lake and is marked by blue buoys. Fishing is prohibited in the protected area.
