A new church was consecrated in 1768 after its predecessor was demolished due to the risk of collapse. On May 15, 1811, there was a catastrophic fire. After a lightning strike during a violent storm, most of the buildings in the church village of Rhade burned down, including the church. It took six years to repair the damage and the church was rededicated on the 300th anniversary of the Reformation on October 31, 1817. The entire village was spared during a similarly severe thunderstorm on August 10, 1821, which brought lightning to the streets. Since then, the Rhader parish has celebrated a worship service every 10th of August.
Today, the Evangelical Lutheran St. Gallus parish is a lively church community with a wide range of services for all age groups and life situations.
