Backstone church with free-standing bell tower in the center of Visselhövede

The Protestant-Lutheran St. John's Church is the oldest building in Visselhövede and is located in the center of the town, opposite the market square above the Vissel spring. St. John's Church consists of the church building and a free-standing bell tower. The bell tower dates back to 1799 and the bell ringing consists of three bronze bells cast in Bremen-Hemelingen in 1971.

In its style - on field stones in North German brick Gothic style - St. John's Church is typical of the region. The first church on this site was probably built in 1358 - at the Vissel spring, which was considered a pagan shrine. Today, the spring flows into a pond around which a small arboretum has been created. Inside the church there is an impressive pulpit, which was hand-carved in 1641, and a stone baptismal font from the 14th century. The ceiling painting in the choir is particularly worth seeing. The organ case dates back to the 18th century. The current organ was installed in 1983 by the organ building company Führer.
