The Protestant-Lutheran chapel congregation of the chapel is part of the St. Johanniskirchengemeinde Visselhövede in the Rotenburg church district of the regional church of Hanover.
The four-hundred-year-old St. Nicholas Chapel in Wittorf is one of the few half-timbered chapels from the period before the Thirty Years' War far and wide. It was built in 1605 by Bishop Philipp Sigismund of Verden and served as a hunting chapel.
Next to the church is the Wittorf cemetery.
