The design came from the state building inspector Richard Herzig. It is a three-aisled, neo-Romanesque basilica made of brick with a square choir and semicircular apse. The tower on the west façade is 35 meters high.
Above the portal are three bronze figures from 1983: from left: Saint Suitbert (one of the first messengers of the faith in Saxony), Joseph with Jesus (patron saint of the church), Jesuit Father Johannes Arnoldi (was killed for his faith during the Counter-Reformation).
Remarkable is the elaborate painting of the building in the Nazarene style by Franz Müller and Eduard Goldkuhle, who came from the Düsseldorf School of Painting . The organ from 2004 was built by the organ builder Lothar Simon from Borgentreich. It has 22 stops on
