Church
Certainly worth seeing with its interesting history: the listed Protestant-Lutheran St Vitus Church in Barskamp.
The church, the oldest part of which is the tower, was probably built around 950 as a defence tower. The tower dates from the late 14th century. It is assumed that another church stood on this site before, possibly made of wood or fieldstone. Between 1764 and 1770, the church and defence tower were rebuilt together. The altar and the Last Supper picture were created in 1770 by the Lüneburg painter Heinrich Melchior Westphal. The medieval baptismal font is supported by a baptismal stand made of reddish elm wood, which was crafted by sculptor Otto Flath. The church houses the Meyer organ from 1856 and a bell from 1325.
