Mostly flat, this route leads through forests and spa towns.

If so inclined, you can make it from Leipzig to Berlin in five days. In Saxony, the route will take you through enchanting sceneries and is blissfully flat, however, features many attractions, such as the forests of the nature park “Dübener Heide“ (Düben heathland), the charming promenades in the spa towns of Bad Düben and Bad Schmiedeberg, 1,000 year-old Castle Düben and, last but not least, the many water and wind mills along the way.

Directions

The tour starts at Leipzig Central Station and runs along Brandburger Straße on the east side of the station to Schönefeld-Abtnaundorf. There you will pass both Schönefeld Castle and Abtnaundorf Castle before the route passes the Nordost natural swimming pool and the Hohen Thekla church in the district of Thekla. Via Plaußig-Portitz, the route follows the Parthe-Mulde cycle path to the end of the village. Then turn left onto Plaußiger Dorfstraße and follow the Berlin-Leipzig cycle path via Merkwitz, Gottscheina, Mutschlena, Kupsal and Boyda to Schönwölkau.

At the end of the village, the cycle path continues via Krippehna and passes the Schadebach reservoir in Noitzsch. Via the village of Wellaune, the route continues over the Mulde bridge to the spa town of Bad Düben. There the route passes Bad Düben Castle, St. Nikolai Church and the famous Bock windmill at the end of the town. At Hammerbrücke, the cycle route runs through the Düben Heath for the rest of the way to Bad Schmiedeberg, which impresses with its dense pine groves and extensive areas of mixed forest.
