- Destination: Train station Königstein
Our tour starts at Reißigerplatz in Königstein near the local train station. You can get here by S-Bahn from Dresden or Bad Schandau. Take the bicycle bus 242 or 246 uphill in the direction of Rosenthal-Bielatal. In between, you can get off at Leupoldishain, Nikolsdorf, Cunnersdorf and Bielatal.
In Rosenthal there are several bicycle bus stops - the further we go, the more metres in altitude we save. You can get off at the village square or Mühlsteig, for example. Then we dive into the forests of Rosenthal and after a short distance we reach the Fuchsteich. This pond was built more than 400 years ago to float logs across the Cunnersdorfer Bach or the Biela towards the Elbe. Water was dammed up here for this purpose. Nearby is the Taubenteich, the second pond on this route, which served the same purpose. For the rafting itself, the respective weir was then opened.
There are rest areas at both ponds, and since 2016 there has even been a bivouac at the Taubenteich on the forestry trail that also runs here. There is room for up to 10 people in two shelters, and five tent sites provide further space for overnight stays. The bivouac site is also equipped with an approved fireplace and a compost toilet.
Our tour now takes us further away from the border and we follow the Krippenbach stream steadily downhill towards the Elbe. We cross the Saxon low mountain range route and pass through villages like Kleingießhübel and Krippen, where we join the Elbe cycle path.
From here we are flexible and could cycle back to our desired starting point at any of the stations on the S1 suburban railway line. We cycle back to Königstein and enjoy the views of the cliffs in the Elbe valley along the way.
