Devon Trail

It is the beauty of the Islek* with its rugged cliffs and deeply cut river valleys that never fails to inspire on this hiking trail in the NaturWanderPark delux.
Away for a change, yet so close to life. This path leads you over rugged rocks and through winding valleys in the middle of a natural idyll that could not be more wildly romantic. You will be surrounded by the voices of birds, the rustling of leaves in the wind and the murmur of crystal clear streams. Deep below you lies the Devonian bedrock: fossilized mighty sediments of an ancient shallow sea, folded up and piled up. The Prüm River and its tributaries have dug deep into this and created this multifaceted landscape.
Right at the start at the Mariensäule, you will be greeted by the first Eifel panorama with a view of Waxweiler with the Südeifeldom. First, the trail climbs crisply over the Eichelsberg to the Trielsberg, then over sun-drenched meadows and through sparse forest downhill into the picturesque Weiherbach valley, which you follow to Waxweiler. A detour to the DEVONIUM prehistoric museum is highly recommended, because here you will get an entertaining insight into the exciting land travel of animals and plants around 400 million years ago.

Wildly romantic deceleration

The path now follows the Prüm, first upstream until shortly after the Ginshauser Mühle, where you cross the river to then comfortably follow the valley southeast through beautiful mixed forest halfway up. Via serpentines you reach the bottom of the valley again. The Prüm and later the Dierbach accompany you as you enjoy the ripples.  Just like the brook in small meanders, your path winds through the dreamy valley. Some fish ponds glisten in the sunlight, forest and meadows alternate. However, one thing always remains the same on this path - the deceleration due to the wonderful silence.

*The Islek is a foothill of the Ardennes and stretches across the north of Luxembourg and the north of the southern Eifel.
