Exciting videos and audios explain how important this landscape is for plants and animals. You drive past herds of cattle, sheep and donkeys through the middle of nature. Every now and then you stop to listen and look at everything there is to marvel at. What does the forest look like in its original state? How useful are all the animals you see along the way? At Gut Leidenhausen you can visit the bird of prey sanctuary or the game enclosures. As you continue on your tour, you can see Cologne/Bonn Airport in the distance and let the exciting film show you all the things that happen there every day.

Safety guidelines
As the Wahner Heide is an important nature reserve and was once a military training area, the following rules must be observed:
- The route recommendation is aimed at individual families and small groups up to 8 people. For larger groups and events such as company/school outings, guided tours, etc., a separate permit must be obtained from the Untere Lanschaftsbehörde des Rheinisch-Begischen Kreises.
- The trails may not be left. This is for the protection of the animals, the nature experience (more animals can be seen from the path when they feel safe) and your own protection due to the ammunition remains (danger to life!) from the former use as a military training area.
- In the Wahner Heide there are no rubbish bins. Please also plan a transport container for your waste and dispose of it in your or a public waste bin outside the Wahner Heide.
- Dogs act as a threat to wildlife. Please leash your dog in the nature reserve.
- Here you can read the conservation objectives and prohibitions for the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis and more information about the Wahner Heide
It is important that you are aware that the Wahner Heide is a nature conservation area, FFH and EU bird sanctuary, for which corresponding rules apply - it is best to find out about these rules before your visit. Information on this can be found on the respective websites of the city of Cologne and the city of Bergisch Gladbach. In addition, the most important rules and prohibitions are shown on the information boards at the public access points.
This tour will take you for the most part through woods and field paths far away from road traffic. It is therefore advisable that you are already able to ride a bicycle. In a few places you will have to cross busy roads. Be especially careful here and get off the bike!
