- Start: Parking lot near the Drachenfelsbahn valley station, tourist information (clockwise hike recommended)
The romantic gorge, with the old wine cellars carved into the rock, which were used to store wines in a cool place, is used by many guests who do not want to travel comfortably up the Drachenfels by cog railroad. Once we reach the end of the valley, we turn off into the hollow path in the direction of the Milchhäuschen, not without first admiring the view of Drachenburg Castle and the newly planted orchard. We continue along the German Unity Trail to the Milchhäuschen forest restaurant, where we take a break. After refreshments, we take the path to Drachenfels, passing Wolkenburg Castle, whose view of the Rhine Valley we can only admire at the end of the tree-lined avenue as we walk back a short distance along the slope by the hiking map. The Drachenfelsrestaurant, newly built and opened in 2012, is only a few meters away and there we enjoy the breathtaking view down into the Rhine Valley. We walk along the Eselsweg on the Rhine towards Königswinter's old town and come to Drachenburg Castle and the Foundation for the History of Nature Conservation. Both are worthwhile sights, as is the Nibelungenhalle further downhill with its reptile zoo. This means we have covered the most important tourist destinations in Königswinter in just under 2 hours.
