The trail runs along the Freiberger Mulde river for long stretches through the Eichgrund and the beautiful landscape of the Saxon Burgenland. From the start at Mildenstein Castle in Leisnig, via the 12th-century Cistercian monastery "Buch", to the idyllic 1,000-year-old town of Döbeln, this stage is a fantastic hiking experience.

From the town of Leisnig, the trail leads through Eichgrund along the Freiberger Mulde river to Buch Monastery. The Cistercian monastery dating back to 1192 is well worth a detour. The chapter house and abbot's house, the infirmary and the infirmary chapel are still preserved from the former monastery complex. The route leads along forest, meadow and village roads. Behind Westewitz, the Luther Trail crosses the Mulde. The route continues on the Mulde cycle path along the river. During Luther's lifetime, Duke George the Bearded, a vehement enemy of the reformer, ruled here. It was only after the duke's death in 1539 that the Reformation was able to spread in Albertine Saxony. Nevertheless, the first Protestant sermon was preached in Döbeln as early as 1521, although it was held in the town hall rather than the church.

Directions

The route begins in Leisnig behind the bridge on the Schlossberg. From there it goes up to the castle and then eastwards out of the town via Bahnhofstraße. First you follow the Freiberger Mulde and then the Wallbach in a southerly direction. From there, continue along the Mulde Valley hiking trail. Buch Monastery is on the other side of the river, but the detour is not far and well worth it. Back on the Luther Trail, you cross the Freiberger Mulde before Westerwitz and walk along the northern bank from there. Via the village of Techwitz, past monastery gardens, you reach Döbeln via Großbauchlitz. In Döbeln, the route continues along the river. Cross the river at the traffic circle and follow the route marked with a green "L" on a white background towards the town center. The stage ends at the Obermarkt.
