Most of the trail runs along the banks of the Mulde and offers hikers a wonderful view of the towers of the medieval towns of Trebsen and Grimma. Here, the Luther Trail follows the Mulde cycle path for a while and is therefore very easy to walk. The historic town center of Grimma is well worth a visit, especially the historic monastery church where Luther used to preach. Today, the building is no longer used as a church but as an event hall. South of the town, you can visit the former site of the Cistercian nunnery Marienthron zu Nimbschen. Katharina von Bora lived in the convent at Nimbschen for 14 years until she managed to escape with other nuns in 1523. She then traveled via Torgau to Wittenberg, where she married Luther in 1525. Luther preached several times in Grimma, in the monastery and Nicolai Church.
