Although this section of the trail between Waldheim and Kriebstein is only 5 km long, hikers can expect a wonderful route along the Zschopau river with a magnificent view of the panorama of the historic town of Waldheim and Kriebstein Castle, which is considered Saxony's most beautiful knight's castle.

The route starts at the imposing town hall of Waldheim, which is famous for its rich Wilhelminian-style architecture, and then leads hikers along the banks of the Zschopau river. This section of the trail is extremely quiet, romantic and relaxing. From Unterrauschenthal, a forest path leads up to the medieval Kriebstein Castle. Here you will find the famous Alexius altar from the Waldheim monastery. Built in 1384, the castle belonged to Duchess Elisabeth of Saxony for six years from 1537, who was a supporter of the Reformation and carefully introduced it into her domain. A guided tour of the castle with its castle museum, knights' hall, castle chapel and large banqueting hall is definitely not to be missed.
