MORSBACH ADVENTURE TRAIL: Hike and journey through time
Hike through the river valley on a trail of the past
It is hard to believe that mills once clattered and hammers boomed along the Morsbach. High-quality tools were once produced on the banks of the “most industrious stream” in the Bergisches Land. As a result, the Morsbach valley gained fame all over the world.
Today, all you will hear is the river rushing by and the sounds of nature on your trail through the Morsbach valley.
Fabulous views at the Müngsten Bridge
Make an exhilarating start in Müngsten at the foot of the steel wonder that is the Müngsten Bridge and the mouth of the Morsbach into the Wupper. Then head off into the idyllic landscape of the river valley. The route constantly alternates between wide hiking trails and narrow paths. Hike over bridges and walkways across low hills that open up wonderful panoramic views down into the valley. Every now and again there are secluded spots to take a break and enjoy a picnic.
Historic forging techniques
You should definitely stop off at the picturesquely located Steffenshammer where the big water wheel still turns. This last working forge is driven by the Gelpe which meets the Morsbach here.
The end point of your hike is the beautiful Leyerbach valley with the historic Hilbertshammer. The Leyerbach, a tributary of the Morsbach, meanders through the valley. The floodplain landscape of this nature conservation area with its colourful fauna and flora is simply enchanting.
Tip: Brace yourself before you set off at Haus Müngsten with a beautiful view of Germany's highest railway bridge. Things will get even better after that.Good to know
