A tour with perfect dramaturgy. Past the Sieg and Agger, through the Wahner Heide to the Wahnbachtalsperre.

After rolling into the wide valleys along the Sieg and Agger, there is a moderate climb through the Lohmar forest and open fields up to the heights above the Wahnbach dam. Nice places to stop for a break offer the opportunity to celebrate the mountain. After the rest, the tour leads over a ridge down to the dam, where you can relax on a lounger in the meadow orchard and look out. A restaurant right on the Sieg provides a nice end to the tour.

Directions

We recommend starting at the train station in Hennef. All S-Bahn trains that serve the Siegtral and the RE 9 (Cologne-Siegen) stop here. However, other starting points are also possible, e.g. in Siegburg or Troisdorf. From the train station we first cycle through the city center. After about 500m we reach the Sieg cycle path, which we follow downstream. Behind the motorway, the cycle path leads comfortably along the dike. On the way we pass junction 20. On the other side of the Sieg is the popular Sieglinde restaurant, which we reserve for the end of the tour. After junction 1 we see Siegburg on the other side of the Sieg. At the following junction 2 it is possible to take a detour to the district town with its large pedestrian zone and the Michaelsberg. To reach junction 29 we have to change sides of the Sieg at the striking Melanbogen bridge. The Agger-Sülz cycle path is already marked here, which we follow for the next 6 km. The route has a number of highlights. In quick succession we pass the Aggerwehr, where many people come to cool off in summer, a boat rental station and the “Aggua” leisure pool at junction 25. Another detour to Wissem Castle with its picture book museum (junction 24) is also recommended here. Our tour continues up the Agger. Behind the Aggerstadion the route leads into the Wahner Heide, an important European nature reserve, but where military exercises still take place. At junction 32 we leave the Agger-Sülz cycle path, orient ourselves exclusively using the junction system and ride across the Agger to junctions 6 and 4. We pass the center of the Agger town of Lohmar with numerous places to stop for refreshments. From junction 4 the character of the tour changes. It goes continuously uphill through forest, meadows and farmland to junction 41 in Hochhausen. A total of 150 meters in altitude must be overcome over a 7 km route. Once at the top, we first take the cycle path on the B56 slightly downhill to the Franzhäuschen restaurant. Here we turn right into the forest in the direction of the Wahnbachtalsperre. A short detour to the dam is recommended. After the exit to Seligenthal we reach junction 43. There is also a restaurant in the monastery complex, which is worth seeing. It is only 2 km to the next junction (20) with the Sieglinde restaurant. Here we are back on the Sieg cycle path, which we follow to the starting point in Hennef.
