Pure nature: Friends of peaceful valleys and lonely paths are on the best path here.

Idyllic stream valleys: The tour initially runs quietly and car-free in the Hanfbachtal along a former railway line. Varied landscape and traces of former mills are pleasing to the eye. Thanks to the slight gradient in the Krabachtal, the tour can be ended in a relaxed manner on the Sieg cycle path. There, idyllic pastures and the picturesque half-timbered village of Auel ensure feelings of happiness.

Directions

The tour begins at the “Hennef im Siegbogen” stop. The S-Bahn lines S12 and S19 run between Cologne and Windeck. There are also numerous free parking spaces available there. The route is not signposted at the beginning. A GPX track is available for orientation. After the short drive through a small residential area and crossing under federal highway 8, you directly reach the open countryside. Behind the village of Petershohn the path leads to a small hill from which you can overlook the lower Siegtal with the town of Hennef. The short descent then leads into the Hanfbachtal. From here to Krautscheid, the signage provides additional orientation. A narrow-gauge railway used to run in the Hanfbachtal to Asbach for both passenger and freight transport. The cycle route runs with a slight incline on or next to the former railway embankment, constantly alternating between forests or along meadows. The stream side changes in the towns of Dahlhausen and Hanf. Shortly before Krautscheidyou reach the state border of NRW/Rhineland-Pfalz. In Mendt, a memorial stone points to the old railway line in the Hanfbachtal. From here it is only a short distance to the highest point of the tour. As soon as the federal highway 8 has been crossed, the tour leads downhill into the idyllic Krabachtal. While the Hanfbachtal was still characterized by an open and varied landscape, nature predominates in the approximately 10 km long section of the Krabachtal. That's why it is under special protection. The Krabach flows into the Sieg in the small town of Bach. Merten Castle can already be seen on the other side of the river. The entire facility can be visited. There is a place to stop for refreshments in the orangery. From Merten Castle, the last 7 km lead back to the starting point via the very well-developed and signposted Siegtal cycle path.
