Viewing platform Viaduct:
On arrival in Altenbeken, the viaduct, which was inaugurated in 1853 and has been a listed building since 1988, immediately catches the eye. The 482-metre-long and up to 35-metre-high railroad bridge is the largest sand-lime brick bridge in Europe. The impressive structure can be admired up close from the viewing platform during a short stopover.
Velmerstot:
The Velmerstot is the northernmost and highest mountain in the Eggegebirge. What makes it special are its two peaks: the 441 m high Lippische Velmerstot and the Prussian Velmerstot, which is around 800 m away and 468 m high. The Eggeturm tower there, which is already part of the Sandebeck district of Höxter, offers a unique view over the Teutoburg Forest, the Weserbergland and the Egge. On a clear day, even the contours of the Sauerland mountains can be identified.
Noaks Pumpe:
Noaks Pumpe in the Steinbeketal valley takes its name from the former forester Friedrich August Noak. While the former forester's lodge burned down in 1880 as a result of a lightning strike, the pump was still used until the 1980s to water the cattle kept in the surrounding pastures. In 1985, friends of local history from Bad Lippspring moved the installation, which had been damaged several times during timber transport, but lost its functionality as a result.
Transformer tower station:
Located in the center of Schlangen, the Historical transformer tower station Schlangen Mitte provides an insight into the electrification of the village, which began in 1912 with the commissioning of the streetcar. In 1925, the first transformer station was erected, which was built over the Schlangen stream due to a lack of building space ... a unique feature in Germany. For some years now, the building, which was extended in 1956/57, and its almost completely preserved historical equipment, including the transformer, switchboards and fuse elements, have served as an electricity museum.
