The Tichler Route connects the LEADER region "3L in Lippe" (Lage, Lemgo, Leopoldshöhe) not only geographically, but also historically.

About 40 km in length, you can experience the shared culture, landscape and history with a view of brickmaking (Tichler=brickmaker) in the region. The flyer and information boards at selected locations will give you a first impression of how important this craft was for Lippe and the places where the brickmaking tradition is still kept alive today. Thanks to two loops, you can follow the circular tour as a whole or in sections with just one start and end point. For the most part, the route follows the signposting of the NRW cycle network.

Interesting points along the way:

(1) Alongside Lemgo and Schieder, Lage station was one of the most important stations for the transportation of bricks in Lippe.

(2) The technical center was built in 1925 in neoclassical style. Until 1970, it served as an engineering school where, among other things, bricklaying engineers were trained. Since 1995, the Technikum has been a cultural center, home to the music school, the VHS Lippe-West and the Sibylle Dotti Art Foundation.

(3) The brickmaker's fountain is a symbol of the brickmaking tradition of the town of Lage. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmarkt" was held here, where brickmakers and master brickmakers concluded their contracts for the coming year from December to February.

(4) The Leopoldshöhe market square was redesigned as part of the town center redevelopment in 2009. It is a central location where various events take place throughout the year.

(5) The Heimathof was created from the former "Hof Eickmeyer". It is representative of the small farmsteads at the time of the Zieglerwanderung and gives an impression of how people lived and farmed back then.

(6) The LWL-Industriemuseum Ziegelei Lage keeps an important piece of industrial history alive. The historic factory buildings of the former Beermann brickworks form the core of the museum. Find out more about the work and everyday life of the Lippe brickmakers here.

(7) Around 1900, around 35 - 40% of all working men in Lippe worked as brickmakers abroad. In 1894, the Lieme Brickmakers' Association was founded, which today is the largest brickmakers' association in Lippe with 300 members.

(8) From 1870, the former clay pit in Steinstoß was an extensive clay store for the Rehme and Krüger brickworks.

(9) In 1900, 13.1% of the male inhabitants of the brickmaking village of Hardissen worked as brickmakers.
