"BLUE!" - much more than a color!
This exhibition combines two artistic and cultural-historical approaches to the color blue.
On display are cyanotypes by Nike Gerochristodoulou, whose artistic practice combines photography, observation of nature and material processes. The artist has a degree in photo design and in her studio at Gut Groß-Engershausen she is inspired by the traces and structures of the living world, working with the elements of nature. The cyanotype technique is more than 180 years old. Under the influence of natural sunlight, artistic works are created in nature, which are always unique and cannot be 100% planned by the artist, because the weather/sunlight plays a decisive role. Fascinating works with a very special appeal!
In addition, students from the University of Osnabrück under the direction of Prof. Dr. Bärbel Schmidt present their research and designs on blue printing in Germany and Georgia. The textile design students spent a semester intensively studying the intangible cultural heritage of blueprinting in Germany and Georgia. In several working groups, they immersed themselves in the history, technology and cultural significance of this traditional craft. The projects have resulted in an exhibition that invites visitors to discover - touching is expressly permitted! The room in which the supra, the traditional Georgian feast, is staged is also particularly attractive. This would be inconceivable without the "Blue Table Cloth", a tablecloth produced especially for the exhibition by the Tbilisi State Academy of Art - art and culture with all the senses.
This creates a dialog between contemporary cyanotype and blue print culture, which makes the creative diversity and historical depth of blue visible.
