After about 45 minutes of varied walking from the Buchenparkhalle parking lot, the path leads directly to the boat station. The boats glide almost silently over the clear water. Along the steep rock formations, imaginative figures such as mountain spirits, crocodiles, frogs and sheep stimulate the imagination. Sulphur lichen covers the rock faces and gives them a golden glow.
Notes:
If you have problems climbing stairs, we recommend the outward and return journey, as the return journey on the one-way trip involves climbing stairs.
If you have a wheelchair or baby carriage, please book the outward and return journey, as these are parked at the boat station.
A wheelchair can unfortunately not be taken on the barges and it is necessary to walk about 10m for the ride.
Please only travel to the boat station in a wheelchair with an accompanying person, as the last 50m are very uneven and steep and use Neue Straße, not via Dachsweg
.
Even on midsummer days, the climate "down here" is pleasantly cool. During the 20-minute trip, the barge driver entertains you with entertaining and amazing stories. Once you arrive at the dam wall, there are well-signposted hiking trails for the return journey - alternatively, a narrow crevice leads up to the Herrmannseck for experienced hikers.
