Church in Dreislar

Church
St. Francis Church Dreislar
The first small church in Dreislar was built around 1650 and was dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi.

As it was located close to the Ölfe stream, which caused water damage, the present church was built on a higher site in 1864. In 1931/2, a transept and a choir were added. The quarry stone church in neo-Gothic style is a listed building.

The high altarpiece shows the stigmatization of St. Francis. Several statues of saints, including a Gothic figure of St. Elizabeth and the unique barite cross adorn the church interior. One of the stained glass windows depicts the martyr Sebastian, the patron saint of Dreislar, who was pierced by arrows. Another window shows the patron saint of miners, St. Barbara.

The Dreislar Catholic parish holds regular services in the church.
