Eligiuskapelle zu Neuerburg

Church
Medieval chapel with partially preserved original wall paintings and beautiful park area

The choir room of the former hospital church was built in 1437. The church nave fell victim to arson in 1886. The paintings on the altar wall date back to the time of its construction.

Services of the hammerers' guild or Eligius Brotherhood were held in the chapel. This guild included professions that worked with a hammer, such as goldsmiths, locksmiths, carpenters, masons, and joiners. The members were called "Loyenbrüder," and the church was colloquially known as "Loukierch," a derivation from the French form of the name Eligius.

Below the chapel, there is a beautiful park.
